There are three different types of decisions that have to be made by parents with regard to their children. They include:
1. Major Decisions
2. Minor decisions
3. Emergency Decisions affecting Health and Safety
These are the important decisions about the child.
Major decisions are made by the parent or parents with legal custody.
These decisions include:
These are the daily and routine decisions that need to be made for the child. These type decisions shall be made by the parent having actual physical custody at the time of the decision.
These decisions include:
These are emergency decisions that are of an urgent nature. They affect the immediate health and safety of the child and have to be made before it is possible to contact the other parent. The parent who is with the minor child requiring emergency care may make the emergency decision. The parent making the emergency decision shall advise the other parent of the nature and extent of the emergency as soon as possible.
